Waller Creek Boathouse is nestled against Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin, only minutes from everything Austin has to offer.
Rent kayaks and stand-up paddle boards, learn how to row, take an indoor rowing class, or just relax on the patio overlooking the lake while enjoying a drink and a snack.
This sounds like the typical pitch from your local tourist trap. Well, it's not. READ ON.
My roving reporter recently visited this establishment while visiting the beautiful city of Austin Texas.
With a few hours to kill and no shade in sight she made for the water in an attempt to find a place to catch the local culture and enjoy a breeze off the Colorado River. Always on the lookout for new coffee she spied the Alta Cafe in the Waller boat house. She ordered a plain black coffee as her sampler followed by an Iced coffee more appropriate to the fourty degree heat. The coffee was smooth and light with just a hint of nut. It had a short clean finish with a pleasant texture, the perfect blend for a hot climate. Fortunately she brought home a back of fresh roasted for Father's Day and I was able to enjoy a cup on Sunday Morning.
What a treat! It was a great smooth cup of coffee. It has a pure coffee taste with no bitterness. It was light and fresh with out being weak and was perfect to be consumed black. I let the pot cool and finished it later in the day over ice with just a dash of brown sugar to perk me up after a long day at the Mall.
If you're in Austin then you need to stop by the Waller Boat House and enjoy a cup from Alta.
