Coffee lovers have an opportunity to take their passion to a whole new level.
On Saturday, the 5th annual VINES Coffee Bag Silent Auction will return from 3 to 5:30 p.m., inviting the community to buy gifts made out of burlap coffee bags.
VINES asked local artists to create artwork or functional items to be auctioned, challenging entrants to do so using recycled burlap coffee bags.
Submitted items will be featured in the silent auction at four spots: Laveggio Roasteria, Chroma Cafe & Bakery, Gennarelli's Flower Shop and Loft at 99, 97-105 Court St. in Binghamton. All proceeds raised at the event will be put towards urban gardens and youth empowerment in Binghamton.
Attendees will receive a number at the door for bidding. There will be coffee, desserts and cocktails in between sessions.
Previous submissions have included handbags, jewelry and furniture, in an artistic transformation of recycled burlap coffee bags into crafty, artistic or functional items.
VINES is a non-profit organization created in 2007 to build and sustain community gardens in the Binghamton area. VINES also offers food security, employment, educational and recreational programs, including a summer youth program, Binghamton Urban Farm, community gardens, Farm Share and Green Thumb workshops.
