The annual event — which launched in 2003 but was suspended last year due to logistical issues in the host country Brazil — typically brings together stakeholders from throughout the coffee supply chain for panel discussions, seminars, cuppings, tours and workshops.
The theme of 2016’s event is “Prospering in the New Reality.” Topics of discussion announced by the company include gender equity in the coffee supply chain, the influences of economic consolidation and climate change on the coffee landscape, and the role of responsible sourcing practices in light of scrutinized labor conditions at origin.
In years past, the event’s third day typically included visits to coffee farms, but this year’s tours will focus on the production of another beverage. Said Sustainable Harvest, “Attendees will head to the town of Tequila to tour agave farms and tequila distilleries, and participate in a tasting of this beverage that is native to the region.”
