Now when you order a Big Mac, Egg McMuffin or McCafe Chocolate Shake at select McDonald's restaurants, you can do something good for the earth.
Three McDonald's restaurants operating on the West Shore allow customers to take home used coffee grounds. The free grounds are available first come, first served basis by each restaurant's beverage bar. The coffee grounds are packaged in to-go bags.
Participating restaurants include:
Route 114 and Shadow Oak Drive, Silver Spring Township, Pennsylvania
Route 83 & Carlisle Road, Lower Allen Township, Pennsylvania
6250 Carlisle Pike, Silver Spring Township, Pennsylvania
Restaurant supervisor Julie Clark said the program is a great way for the restaurants' crews to have a relationship with the community.
"We very rarely have any coffee grounds left. Once people hear about it or let someone else know about it, they will come in and get coffee grounds," she said. "We have a few customers who will take all of it and most put in their compost piles in their gardens."
McDonald's is hoping to eventually expand the program to other locations.
