San Diego has a wealth of independent coffee houses and cafes that deliver their brew in their own special ways.  The caffeine craze is alive and well in this city’s sunny streets; they are also great places to sit back and enjoy the day.  The following are some of San Diego’s most popular coffee venues.

Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge
Situated in the North Park neighborhood on University Avenue, the Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge offers a relaxing atmosphere where customers can enjoy their coffee amidst great local entertainment.  Espresso, cappuccino, and lattes are mainstays on the drink menu, but specialty drinks also include chai, hot chocolate, and mulled cider.  Aside from the delicious coffee, a delightful breakfast and lunch menu also await those lucky enough to find themselves at Claire’s.  Homemade quiche and soup are local favorites, but the bacon waffle is hard to beat.  There are also vegetarian selections available.

Lestat’s Coffee House
With a name Anne Rice would approve, Lestat’s Coffee House has created a decadent coffee menu that includes wonderful classics like mochas and lattes, but also inviting concoctions like the Carmel D’lish (a cinnamon latte soaked with caramel) and the Dulce Mexican Mocha (Mexican hot chocolate with caramel).  They serve a wide array of teas, cold drinks, and frozen drinks.  Lestat’s also offers soup, salads, sandwiches, and bagels.  The atmosphere is inviting and local music performances make this a great place to hang out with a gourmet drink.

Café Bassam
The antique style of Café Bassam wafts customers back to an historic Parisian atmosphere.  This café has all the appeal of a European coffee house and delivers extraordinary coffee.  The coffee drinks are accompanied by a wine list and an extensive tea list.  Its signature style makes it a popular venue for people who love originality along with a seriously good cup of coffee.  With two San Diego locations, there is every reason to make your way to one of their delightful shops.

Caffiends Lounge 634
Recently opened, this is an edgier coffee venue that is popular with a youthful crowd.  Musical performances provide an entertaining backdrop to the coffee bar.  Of course, their Hookah Lounge and its array of exotic tobacco also draw a crowd.  The coffee list is extensive and there is also plenty of delicious food on the menu.  This venue also sponsors weekly themes like Reggae Mondays that are popular with its clientele.

Café 976
Situated in beach house that dates back to the 1920s, Café 976 has been serving great coffee and bistro fare since 1993.  With the beach just a few blocks away, this is a terrific place to stop in for a delicious meal and one of their espresso specialties.  They feature extensive food and beverage options including many specialties.  This is a wonderfully relaxing venue in a vibrant part of town.

While San Diego offers a dizzying array of coffee establishments, these resonate particularly well with coffee lovers.  They serve great coffee in singular atmospheres.  Stop in to check out what their coffee buzz is all about.
