Where to Get Very Expensive Coffee

Avatar Ray Williamson Posted on: 2013-09-15 12:00 AM
I was recently asked two questions. What was the best coffee in the world and where do you get it? I'm not going to presume to tell you the best coffee. Like scotch, watches and cars the "best" is subject to taste. I will share with you that you can tell the difference between very good coffee and good coffee. So instead of writing a subjective article about the best or the most expensive I am going to share a list of the most expensive coffees and where you can get them. If you're a coffee enthusiast you might note these on your Christmas list and perhaps you can try them out over the holiday's.

Please be warned that after a pound or two of very good coffee the transition to your regular brew may require an extra cream or sugar.

Kona Coffee is gourmet coffee grown only one place in the world... on the Island of Hawaii, on the golden Kona Coast, on a very small number of Kona coffee farms... most of them owned by the same kama'aina families for generations. But there is a difference between one Kona coffee and another Kona coffee. KonaCoffee.com is your source for the sought-after Extra Fancy, the top grade (largest beans), and the very rare Peaberry Kona Coffee, the top grades, real gourmet Kona coffee. The best of the best Kona Coffees.  I have some on the way and I'll write more when I've had the chance to enjoy it.

Kopi Luwak

Kopi Luwak the most expensive coffee in the world does exist, and those who drink the expensive coffee insist that it is made from coffee beans eaten, partly digested and then excreted by the Common palm civet, a weasel-like animal. “Kopi” the Indonesian word for coffee along with “luwak” is local name of this animal which eats the raw red coffee beans. The civet digests the soft outer part of the coffee cherry, but does not digest the inner beans and excretes them.

La Esmeralda
This coffee is well known as the 'Esmeralda Special'. The coffee beans are produced at the farm Esmeralda Jaramillo in the mountains of West Panama. It's intense and strong taste is the result of the cold climate and the careful harvesting of the bean.

St. Helena Coffee:
This coffee is the product of the small island of Saint Helena. The coffee is made from the 'Green Tipped Bourbon Arabica', a bean that is exclusive to this island. The taste is pleasant and fruity.

I have put this on my bucket list to visit. I'm sure that it will be worth the trip.

Fazenda Santa Ines Coffee
This coffee comes from Minas Gerais in Brazil. It is produced on the Fazenda Santa Ines farm in a traditional matter. There are no automated processes involved. It's great taste is characterised by the sweetness of caramel and berries. I have had this at an event. I asked my host about the coffee and was eager to purchase some for myself. My esteem for the generosity of this host to serve this to 30 people was elevated to a level equal to the flavour of the coffee.

Blue Mountain Coffee
This coffee is produced on the east side of the Blue Mountains on Jamaica. The coffee is famous for it's mild taste without bitterness. These beans also form the basis for the liquor Tia Maria. From personal experience this coffee is best enjoyed at 7am on the Island of Jamaica while looking over the water and eating a fresh pastry and a wonderful companion.

Enjoy!
