Sometime around March 2011, co-owner of Forty Weight Coffee Roasters, Matt Marks, was approached by Eric Wolf with a business idea. Eric was in the beginning stages of planning a new restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn and had heard of Forty Weight. Eric asked Matt if Forty Weight might like to collaborate and open a cafe/restaurant together? The idea would be to have the space operate as a cafe in the morning and early afternoon, and as a restaurant through the evening. The two co-existing ventures could help each other with expenses, as well as cross-promote. After much deliberation between Matt, roastmaster, Andrew, and Eric (and our lawyers, of course), a deal was struck and the planning began. Construction was long - and maddening at times; getting three people's ideas to meld into one vision proved to be challenging. But in the end, after observing the finished product, it appears that all of the efforts and perhaps a bit of headbutting were worthwhile.
